Change in Leadership for GSS at Year End

After 27 years as leader of the George Spady Society, Lorette Garrick will be retiring at the end of 2024. Lorette has led the George Spady Society through remarkable growth and transformation from what started as a Shelter service in 1983 to services that now encompass a supervised consumption service and medically supported detox, housing and clinical supports, supportive housing programs, and a unique palliative care program.

George Spady Society Board Chair, Chad Ekdahl, describes the scope and significance of the contributions Lorette Garrick has made to reinforcing the agency as a leading provider of services for Edmonton’s unhoused population: “Since joining The George Spady Society in 1997, Lorette has been instrumental in steering the George Spady Society through significant growth, challenges, and successes. Her visionary leadership, unwavering commitment to excellence, and passion for innovation have been driving forces behind our achievements.”

As of January 1st, when Lorette begins to enjoy a well-earned retirement, Dawn-Marie Diab, currently Director of Human Resources and Admin Operations, will step into the CEO role at the George Spady Society.
